Each year, tens of thousands of African Elephants are killed for their tusks, as such many conservationists fear that they are on the road to extinction!
For the past few years, anti - poaching drones have been flying over game reserves and National Parks in South Africa. The drones are deployed in well trafficked areas, using infrared cameras the drone operators can alert nearby rangers when poachers are spotted, allowing the rangers to hopefully intercept the poachers.
As well as elephants, the use of drones is helping to deter the poaching of rhinos. In just a decade, sadly more than 7,000 African rhinos have been lost to poaching.
